STAR CAMPAIGNER: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi at an election rally in Udhampur on Friday. JAMMU: Congress general secretary and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi on Friday asked people to vote for the Congress to make the fight against terrorism possible as also ensure development and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Gandhi is among the star campaigners in the State and he addressed a public meeting on the last day in Tangdhar in the border district of Kupwara. Accompanied by Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz and Minister of State Prithviraj Chouhan, he said that terrorism would not be allowed to flourish in the country. Condemning the terror strikes in Mumbai, he said it would be fought at all levels and sought the people’s cooperation. “My party has concrete plans to fight out terrorism.” He urged the voters to give a clear majority to the Congress to ensure overall development, peace and prosperity. He recalled his family’s association with Kashmir and said that it had a special love for this place. “My grandmother used to visit this place frequently because she had deep love for this place and people” he said. Later addressing a meeting in Udhampur in Jammu region, he asked the people to “give us a clear majority so that we don’t have to look to others while delivering to you.” He said that his party had done a lot to develop the State. Pradesh Congress Committee chief Saifuddin Soz said that the coalition government led by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had achieved tremendous development in the State and “we seek the votes to complete the process of development.” He said that only the Congress could ensure peace in the region.
