DUBAI: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expressed “deep sorrow and pain” over the loss of life and injury to Indians on account of the terrorist strikes in Mumbai. However, he said in parallel messages to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that an “unfair” international order was the root cause of terrorism. He also attributed terrorism to the “occupationist and disuniting” policies that tried to “undermine regional security and stability.” Iran has consistently opposed U.S. occupation of Iraq and Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Mr. Ahmadinejad said: “The ugly phenomenon of terrorism which has its roots in the international unfair order and the occupationist and disuniting policies and has tried to undermine regional security and stability has always been condemned by the Islamic Republic of Iran.” The Iranian President wished the government and the people of India “dignity and prosperity.” “I am confident that this sinister phenomenon could not hinder the progress and flourishing of nations in the region.”
