Letters to the Editor
I am not sure whether the television news channels that telecast live the police response to the Mumbai terror attacks deserve to be congratulated or criticised. I am also not sure whether terrorists themselves benefited from these live feeds. I think in such situations, the first security measure should be to ban live telecasts. B. Natarajan, Kotagiri The round-the-clock live coverage of the state’s response to the terror attacks in Mumbai has once again brought to focus the reckless and insensitive attitude of news channels to such crises. In their bid to compete among themselves, they compromise the efforts of the security forces. I only wish to remind them of the 9/11 coverage by the American media. I appreciate The Hindu for its coverage, which was devoid of unnecessary hype. R.V. Chari, Chennai The media need to tone down their coverage of terrorist strikes which leave a deep impact on society. They might as well showcase information which makes the character of the nation stronger. Pavan Kaundinya, Secunderabad
