Nearly 80,000 people shifted from 150 villages

TIRUVARUR: Fire Service personnel rescued about 360 people of marooned Vellangal village near Tiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district on Friday. The personnel carried old people and children on their shoulders to a marriage hall in Ovarur village. Similarly, the personnel rescued more than 600 people from Sithanvazhmur. in the district on Thursday night and sheltered them in a temple. Tiruvarur Collector M. Chandrasekaran told The Hindu on Friday that nearly 80,000 people were evacuated from nearly 150 marooned villages
