All the best: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy handing over a cheque to an SHG member in Gajwel on Friday. – GAJWEL (Medak District): Chief Minister Y. S. Rajaskhara Reddy on Friday urged the people to re-elect the Congress Party to complete major irrigation projects like Pranahita–Chevella in the next five years. Addressing a public meeting here after inaugurating a 400 KV sub-station at Kodakandal and laying the foundation stone to canal works of Pranahita –Chevella, Dr. Reddy said that a lot of commitment and courage was needed to take up such irrigation projects and only the Congress could do it. “When we are able to spend around Rs. 46,000 crore on irrigation projects in the last four-and-half years, it is not impossible to spend another Rs. 92,000 crore in the next five years, in which Pranahita- Chevella (Rs. 38,500 crore) will be a part. Bless us and strengthen our hands to complete these projects,” he said. Describing the Pranahita –Chevella project as an ornament (‘maniharam’) for Telangana, he promised to transform Telangana districts . “Irrigation will be provided to 16.5 lakh acres through this project covering eight districts in the region. Has any politician in the past given thought to such a project,” the Chief Minister asked. Ridiculing the criticism by opposition parties against such projects, he wondered whether there was any way out other than taking up lift irrigation projects to irrigate upland areas.
