“Would ensure that files pertaining to the Parliament terror attack case mastermind Afzal Guru are cleared” NEW DELHI: In the light of the terror attacks in Mumbai, the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate for Delhi, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, on Thursday announced that his party would give top priority to ensure measures against terrorism. Announcing the party’s priorities during its first 100 days of coming to power, Prof. Malhotra said the BJP would ensure that files pertaining to the hanging of Parliament terror attack case mastermind Afzal Guru are cleared and stern measures taken to rein in terror. He said the party would take steps to issue ration coupons to vulnerable sections to enable them to buy rations at cheaper rates from outlets of their choice, review the functioning of power distribution companies and press for replacement of fast running meters. “We will come up with a solution to the traffic chaos and in the process the BRT corridor would be scrapped. Action to regularise unauthorised colonies and to provide them with civic amenities like sewerage, electricity and water will be taken,” said Prof. Malhotra. He said adequate steps would also be taken to check crime, especially against women and senior citizens. Referring to the demand for grant of full Statehood to Delhi, he said: “Till such time as this action is taken by Parliament and the Central Government, steps would be taken for the Delhi Government to share the responsibility for maintenance of law and order and the land management in partnership with the Centre.” Better water supplyThe list of priorities includes ensuring better water supply to the residents, proper treatment to the girl child and prevention of female foeticide and checking the menace of corruption in the State organisations. Also high on the agenda are cleaning of the Yamuna and beautification of river banks, action to pay fair compensation to farmers for acquisition of their lands and creation of more employment avenues. “There are plans to open new government colleges as well as medical and engineering colleges, ensuring free and compulsory education for all children from 6-14 years of age as per Directive Principles of State Policy under the Constitution,” said Prof. Malhotra. Grant of a one-time amnesty to all property owners for “excessive construction” in their premises including commercial establishments, action regarding registration of properties which have changed hands under the Power of Attorney and to review the issue of commercial use of properties will also be undertaken if the party comes to power. Prof. Malhotra said completion of various projects connected with the forthcoming Commonwealth Games would be given an impetus, ban on cow slaughter and other animals of the bovine family, preservation of historic monuments in the State and designation of pollution-free units as industrial areas will also find a place in the list of 26 priorities.
