Tamil Nadu gang held for laptop thefts

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Seven teenagers hailing from Tamil Nadu State, who allegedly used to steal laptops from the rooms of bachelors in the wee hours, were arrested by the Begumpet police on Thursday.

All the arrested were aged around 19 and belonged to Shankarapuram village of Gudiyattam in Vellore district, the Begumpet Sub-Inspector Ch. Sridhar said. Members of the gang would come to Hyderabad on and off and indulge in theft. If inmates of the rooms woke up and caught them, the accused would manage to escape posing as speech-impaired. They would show pamphlets claiming that they were physically-challenged and hence begging. The gang allegedly stole eight laptops and five mobiles in this manner in the limits of Begumpet, Gopalapuram and Saifabad police stations in the past two months.

North Zone DCP Swathi Lakra appreciated the Begumpet crime party for nabbing the gang.
