Tamil Nadu MPs to meet PM

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on December 2 to impress upon him the need for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.

They were originally scheduled to meet Dr. Singh on November 28.

Senior government officials said the most important factor that led to the postponement was the terror attacks in Mumbai.

“The Prime Minister is completely occupied with the Mumbai terrorist attacks. We need to let him focus all his energies on the issue,” a senior government functionary heresaid.

Also, the very heavy rains and squall because of cyclone ‘Nisha’ had led to an unofficial halt in fighting in Sri Lanka.

No operation could be carried out in this weather given the nature of terrain, one analyst here said.

Hence, a few days delay in meeting the Prime Minister would not mean any rise in civilian casualties in the island nation.
