Tirupur: The police have beefed up security in the city on Thursday following the terror strike in Mumbai on Wednesday night and in the early hours of Thursday in which over 100 persons were killed.

Vehicular movements

After reviewing the security arrangements in the city, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Coimbatore range), P. Sivanandi, told The Hindu that about 100 additional police personnel were brought in from other places on Thursday morning to strengthen the police presence in Tirupur sub-division.

“Another 100 personnel will be mobilised in a similar manner on Friday,” he added.

A total of seven check posts, each manned by a Sub-Inspector and four constables, had been established at the entry points to monitor the vehicular movements into the city.

Patrolling

Similarly, 10 pickets with about 40 policemen were constituted and open line patrols along railway lines strengthened.

Vehicle checks were carried out at random across the sub-division. Official sources said though there was no specific threat received for the city, additional 20 beats had been introduced in the night hours as a precautionary step. Anti-sabotage squads had intensified checks at lodges, cinemas and other places of congregation.

Additional security blanket has been thrown around vital places of installation and places of worships.
