Tech talk: BSNL AP Circle Chief General Manager T.N. Sudhindra Kumar launches web conferencing service in Hyderabad on Thursday. HYDERABAD: There’s good news for business houses, small and medium enterprises in particular, which are looking for an affordable solution for conferencing systems. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Andhra Pradesh Circle, has announced the launch of web conferencing service, a ‘desktop-based’ initiative, for its broadband subscribers in the State. The multi-point and multimedia services will enable audio, video and data transfer facilities to the subscribers and has several features incorporated into it. The key features of the new service, developed in association with Communication Experts Private Limited (CEPL), include ‘persistent room’, a facility that simulates physical room environment, power point sharing wherein multiple users can view and download power point presentations and upload their information for others to use besides regular features like chatting. BSNL AP Circle Chief General Manager T.N. Sudhindra Kumar, who formally inaugurated the service here on Thursday, said that customers could subscribe to the service that would require a BSNL broadband connection with speed of 256 kbps and above, desktop with Pentium IV or processor with equivalent capacity, standard 300/500k web camera and headset with microphone. Applications could be downloaded from the BSNL website and customers could activate their account by clicking the link provided by the service provider through an e-mail. The BSNL designed the service in four packages Plan 0, plan 499, plan 999 and plan 1999 with usage charges ranging from Rs. 12 a minute for plan 0 to Rs. 5 a minute for plan 1999. The service would be offered without registration fee and usage charges till December 31. Replying to queries, he said revenue sharing with the channel partner CEPL would be in 60:40 ratio while the BSNL would launch its IP TV services soon. Equipment for expansion of mobile services was being readied and it was targeted to add eight lakh more mobile subscribers to the existing 27 lakh by the end of the current financial year.
