NIZAMABAD: Students under the banner of Students Federation of India here on Thursday took out a rally and staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate demanding reimbursement of tuition fees and payment of scholarships. The SFI district president E. Srinivas Goud and secretary G. Naveen deplored that though six months passed since the inception of the academic year fee reimbursement and scholarships were not handed over to students so far. So many applications were not even perused let alone sanction of the scholarships, they said. When a total of 11.67 lakh SC, ST and BC students applied for scholarships only 9.43 lakh applications were examined and the rest were set aside, they said. On the other hand, out of the Rs.11,508 crore required to meet scholarships and fee reimbursement only Rs.655 crore was allocated, they pointed out. For the SC and STs also a nominal allocation was made and as a result they were forced to give up studies in the middle of the academic year as they were not paid scholarships nor fee reimbursement till today, the SFI leaders said. They urged the district authorities and the Government to make immediate efforts to come to the rescue of the poor students.
