New credit-linked subsidy scheme to generate jobs

Collector lists entrepreneurial activities not eligible for subsidy


Nagercoil: The district administration has decided to implement a new credit-linked subsidy scheme called ‘Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme’ for generation of employment opportunities through establishment of micro enterprises in rural as well as urban areas, said Collector Rajendra Kumar.

Speaking to pressperson here on Wednesday, he said that the scheme, proposed by the Central Government, would be implemented by District Industries Centres, Khadi Village Industries Board and the Khadi Village Industries Commission. Financial assistance up to a maximum project cost of Rs.25 lakh in manufacturing sector and Rs.10 lakh in service sector was envisaged under the scheme.

The cost of the project under this scheme included a subsidy of 15 per cent for applicants from general category in urban areas and 25 per cent for those in rural areas.

Activities like processing and sale of meat, manufacturing and sale of cigarettes, beedis, gutka etc., and sale of alcohol and toddy, cultivation of crops, sericulture, horticulture, pisciculture, floriculture, pig rearing, poultry, animal husbandry activities, manufacturing of polythene bags, paddy thrashing machines, industries engaged in hand spinning and weaving and rural transport, including autorickshaws, were banned for financial assistance under this scheme.
