Jayalalithaa condemns terrorist attack in Mumbai

CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa said the terrorist attack in Mumbai had proved that a special Act like POTA should be revived to effectively deal with extremism and terrorism as the existing laws were found to be inadequate to tackle terrorists and extremist outfits.

In a statement here on Thursday, Ms. Jayalalithaa described the attack as a “dastardly act of cowardice to disturb peace and harmony.” National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan, intelligence agencies and police had sought an anti-terror law, but the Centre had ignored their pleas for political motives maintaining that the existing laws were good enough to fight terrorism.

She appealed to people to remain united against such acts of mindless terror.

The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, condemning the attack, said in a statement that it was time for the country to remain firm and united in its fight against terrorism. The party expressed its condolences to families of police personnel who lost their lives in their fight against terrorists.
