‘Sanskrit varsity Bill to ensure smooth administration’ Bill politically motivated: Opposition Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister M.A. Baby on Thursday stoutly denied the Opposition allegation that the government was hounding out Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Vice-Chancellor K.S. Radhakrishnan because of his political affiliation. Replying to a debate on the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (Second Amendment) Bill in the Assembly, Mr. Baby said that former Governor R.L. Bhatia, in his capacity as Chancellor of the varsity, had expressed regret at the manner in which the Vice-Chancellor conducted himself on the matter of expanding the membership of the Syndicate. He said the government had cancelled the decision to permit the Vice-Chancellor to take voluntary retirement because he had not followed the proper procedures in this regard. Opposition member K.C. Joseph and V.D. Satheesan, while participating in the debate, had vehemently alleged that the new amendment Bill was politically motivated. The Minister said the Bill sought to create the post of a Pro-Vice-chancellor in order to ensure smooth administration of the varsity. . The Bill, once enacted, would give the government powers to nominate one student and two more teacher representatives and a representative of the Finance Department to the Syndicate.
