Rotary awards given

VELLORE: President of the Tamil Nadu Lorry Owners’ Association J. Dharmalingam was felicitated by the Rotary Club of Vellore Fort on his election as president of the association, at the `Vocational Service Award Nite-08’ organised by the club here last week.

T. Sivakumar, Field Publicity Officer, Government of India, Vellore was conferred the Professional Excellence Award in recognition of the service rendered by him in creating awareness among the rural public of the social and health issues such as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), avoidance of dowry and issues concerning gender equality by organising interactive seminars and discussions in the interior villages. Vellore Mayor P. Karthikeyan presented the awards.

Mr. Sivakumar said the people do not have enough awareness of social issues despite the presence of several television channels and newspapers. There is a huge gap between possession of knowledge and application of the knowledge.
