Girl rescued from her employers

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: An eight-year-old girl reportedly working as a domestic help at the residence of the former president of KPTCL Employees’ Cooperative Union was rescued by Mahalakshmi Layout Police on Wednesday.

According to the police, representatives of Arunodaya Mahila Samaja, a non-governmental organisation, told the police that the girl was made to work at the residence of Rani Champakadhamaswamy since a year. The organisation alleged that the girl was being harassed and tortured by her employers.

The girl, hailing from Ganigara Koppalu in Hassan district, reportedly told the police that she was regularly beaten by Rani and her three children with chain and wires. She was not given food since Tuesday and was kept in confinement, she alleged. A police team along with representatives of the NGO went to the residence of Champakadhamaswamy and rescued the girl, who was later sent for treatment.
