Muthulakshmi was arrested at Mettur Tamil Nadu police informed about the arrests
Muthulakshmi, Ponnuswamy, ‘Tailor’ Seena and ‘Tailor’ Bose who were arrested on Wednesday. CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Chamarajanagar district police arrested Muthulakshmi, wife of Veerappan, and Ponnuswamy, “Tailor” Bose and “Tailor” Seena, associates of the brigand, in Erode district of Tamil Nadu early on Wednesday. The arrests were made in connection with five cases booked under TADA Act. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police K.V. Sridhar said the District and Sessions Court had issued non-bailable warrants against 38 accused on November 6. Following a tip-off, he said the district police arrested Muthulakshmi from her house at Mettur. Ponnuswamy and “Tailor” Seena were arrested at Gopinatham and “Tailor” Bose at Devara Mali, near Periya tanda in Gopinatham police station limits. He said the Tamil Nadu police had been informed of the arrests. Mr. Sridhar said that of the 68 accused in various cases booked under TADA Act, non-bailable warrants had been issued against 38 persons. He said the arrested persons were brought to the office of the Superintendent of Police for taking their fingerprints and for other procedures before producing them in court. Muthulakshmi told presspersons that she was arrested by the Karnataka police early on Wednesday at her house in Gopinatham. She was safe and the normal police enquiry was conducted, Veerappan’s wife said and added that she would move the court for bail. The designated TADA court judge, T. Rajashekaraiah, remanded the four accused in judicial custody till December 22. Muthulakshmi was taken to the Mysore jail under tight police security. The other three would be lodged in Chamarajanagar jail. Shivasubramanyam and Kolathur Mani, who are also facing cases, too appeared in court. Hearing in their case was adjourned till December 10. DirectionBangalore Staff Reporter writes: Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R. Sri Kumar told reporters that “Muthulakshmi and three others had failed to appear before the designated court in Chamarajanagar, which had issued warrants.” In the recent quarterly review of the pending TADA cases, the Supreme Court directed the court and the police to expedite the proceedings. The police arrested Muthulakshmi.
