‘All projects should be stopped till study is completed’ ‘Denotifiy 2,035 acres of land notified by the KIADB’ MANGALORE: A one-day seminar on the problems of coastal areas held here on Tuesday sought a study on industrial carrying capacity of coastal districts. One of the resolutions passed at the seminar said that till the study was completed, all ongoing projects should be stopped. According to a press release issued by Guruvayunkere-based Nagarika Seva Trust, which had organised the seminar as part of its forthcoming State-level meet of farmers, the seminar passed another resolution demanding that work on the Mangalore Special Economic Zone be stopped. It sought denotification of 2,035 acres of land notified by the KIADB, which, it said, “was acting like an agent of MSEZL”. Congratulating the State Government for opposing the 74,000-acre petrochemical hub (Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region or PCPIR), it sought a Cabinet decision and an official announcement on it. Alleging that lands in Permude were acquired “through inappropriate means”, the seminar sought restoration of the lands to Kudubi tribal people and payment of compensation to them. The seminar said the Government should withdraw what it termed false cases against people agitating against the SEZ. It said religious heads had supported the resolutions. The seminar was attended by Sri Visvesha Tirtha. The swamiji urged the Government to reconsider its stand on the MSEZ.
