To address housing, infrastructure, transportation Population of core area expected to be 43 lakh in 2011 HYDERABAD: The first draft of the Master Plan for the core capital region or ex-MCH area incorporating details of the existing land use, zoning regulations and proposed land use plans prepared by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) came up for discussion on Wednesday. The plan was prepared by a private consultant for HMDA with data collected from different sources pertaining to earlier studies of transportation, environment, heritage and others. Field surveys were taken up and correlated with the latest satellite images as part of the study. It would address critical issues like improvement of physical infrastructure, transportation and circulation, ecology and environment, housing, socio economic and cultural aspects, along with issues of urban governance, officials said. GHMC Commissioner S.P. Singh has said the Master Plan, with a mission statement of making Hyderabad, the ‘most liveable city’, was being prepared with a vision for 2031 A.D. providing a sustainable and high quality of life. Population of the core area which was 36 lakh in 2001 is expected to be 43 lakh in 2011, 51 lakh in 2021 and 61 lakh by 2031. Inputs from were also being incorporated into the report. The plan has been in the making for quite some time and the government was keen to complete it at the earliest considering HMDA had come out master plans for the suburbs and similar plans for Cyberabad and Hyderabad Airports Authority was ready, officials, who participated said. Population growth rate during the plan period is estimated to be as high as 70 per cent with 40 per cent rise in density for the core capital area. With a steady overall growth rate of 1.6 per cent a year, the total resident population in core area of the twin cities would be around 6.13 million, it was estimated. Considering the transformation of the city skyline over the last three decades when the last Master Plan was prepared, it was imperative to take the changes into account and also plan for the future development, officials said.
