Staggered holiday goes

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The staggered holiday, which had been enforced for industrial areas in and around Bangalore since October 20, has been withdrawn from November 14.

The staggered holiday had been taken up to prevent loadshedding in Bangalore city by spreading across the demand for power throughout the week instead of the normal system wherein the demand is more during weekdays and lower during Sundays when most of the industrial establishments close.

Though the staggered holiday helped Bangalore Electricity Supply Company reduce the demand on weekdays by about 100 MW, ultimately it was stopped as the full-fledged loadshedding system of two hours was enforced in Bangalore.

Captive power

Meanwhile, Bescom is yet to make any concrete moves regarding finalising the proposal for tapping captive power generation.
