KANJIRAPPALLY: In a daring day-light robbery, three miscreants made off with gold ornaments worth nearly Rs.60 lakh after attacking a gold merchant in the heart of the town on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, Anaz, a gold merchant from Muvattupuzha who had been running a jewellery shop near Petta junction here, was coming from his rented house nearby on a bike when the miscreants attacked. Anaz was carrying five kg of gold ornaments and cash worth Rs.40,000 in a bag.

Two persons following him on another bike hit him on his head while travelling. Mr. Anaz lost control and fell from the bike. A third person who was standing on the side of the road immediately collected the bag containing gold and cash and joined the two as pillion rider on the bike and sped away.
