Andhra Pradesh shocks PSPBA

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh shocked top seed Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Academy 3-1 in the cadet boys’ pre-quarterfinals, in the 70th sub-junior inter-State table tennis championship at DRRMC Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.

Jagadish Kumar drew with first blood beating L. Puia 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, but PSPBA’s Lua restored parity outplaying D. Rahul 11-7, 11-7, 11-9.

Then Jagadish and Rahul clinched the doubles defeating Lua and Puia 11-8, 11-6, 11-7. Rahul then clinched the first reverse singles match beating Puia.

In a close match that went the full distance, Maharashtra ‘A’ defeated Gujarat 3-2.

Gujarat won the first two singles, but Maharashtra ‘A’ rallied brilliantly to win the doubles and both the reverse singles.

The TTFI technical committee, led by the chief referee N. Ganeshan, conducted random racquet tests to detect the usage of chemical glue.
