Voter enrolment begins at rural post-offices

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad experiment of voter registration through post-offices has been extended to the rural areas in the State with immediate effect.

All the existing 14,000 branch post-offices located in private houses were activated on Wednesday to handle this additional job of enrolling eligible citizens in the villages as voters and rectify the mistakes pointed out in the already published electoral rolls relating to names and other details.

Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao said on Wednesday the “branch postmasters” (house owners) would facilitate the entire process. As they were locals, verification of the details mentioned in applications would be easy and fast.
