APSRTC JAC plans strike
HYDERABAD: The APSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC), comprising five employees and workers’ organisations, as a preparatory step to the launch of an indefinite strike to press several demands has decided to organise State-wide lunch-hour demonstrations on November 29. The protest is to be held in all depots and non-operational units.
The decision was taken after the JAC organised a public meeting here on Wednesday to gear up for the strike, the date of which is yet to be decided. The JAC leaders will meet here on November 27 to review the situation.
The JAC is calling for the strike to protest proposed introduction of SETWIN buses, operation of hired buses and demanding replacement of 4,500 old buses, regularisation of 1,200 casual workers and 1,300 contract conductors and drivers, leave encashment due for three years and payment of ex-gratia on par with the revised Bonus Act.
R. Lakshmaiah (Staff and Workers’ Federation), Prasad Reddy (Employees’ Union), N. Narasimha Rao (Karmika Parishath), Vijay Kumar (Karmika Sangh) and Ben Susheel (Staff and Workers’ Union) addressed the meeting.
Visakhapatnam Special Correspondent adds: The National Mazdoor Union (NMU), recognised trade union of APSRTC, has decided to go on a two-day strike on December 11 and 12.
