Thiruvananthapuram: The Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School has bagged the International School Award introduced by the British Council.

The award is an accreditation scheme for curriculum-based international work in schools. It was given in recognition of the school’s international activities spread across varied subjects during the year 2007-08. Christ Nagar is one among the 28 schools in India to receive the award. Accreditation under this award programme is valid for three years.

A press note quoting Principal Fr. Mathews Chackalackal said the school was selected for the award for events and activities focussing on cancer awareness, environmental degradation, economic development, harvest festival, tourism awareness, space exploration for better living, human rights, anti-retroviral therapy, vector control, disposal and recycling of plastics and media work. “All the events were designed in keeping with the curriculum, incorporating an international outlook, to help children know about people, places and lifestyles.”

During the period, the school received students from Cleveland State University, Ohio, U.S., teachers from Bristol city, volunteer teachers from U.K. and teachers from Anglo-American School, St. Petersburg, Russia.
