BANGALORE: The YMCA College of Physical Education, an institution started by the Young Men’s Christian Association, is all set to celebrate its golden jubilee from Thursday.

Started during 1958 by the then general secretary of YMCA, Bangalore, V.C. Varkey with 10-month certificate course in physical education having 27 students, the institution today stands as one of the best colleges of the country to have trained over 3,000 students.

The college has plans to celebrate the golden jubilee celebrations by holding a two-day seminar on “Introduction of physical education as a compulsory subject in primary and secondary schools in Karnataka” in the city. The event will be inaugurated by Basavaraj Horatti, former Education Minister.

The valedictory programme comprises a karate demonstration by Praveen Ranka, YMCA’s karate coach.
