‘Congress has many issues pertaining to every State. Telangana is not the only issue’ We are not a one-issue party, says the in-charge of A.P. Congress affairs
NEW DELHI: Even as Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been maintaining that the Congress may favour Telangana, AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs, M. Veerappa Moily, declared that the issue was not at all on the party’s agenda now. “There is no confusion on this. Presently, we are concentrating on the Assembly polls in five States. So Telangana is not on the Congress’ agenda. Where is the need for hurry? It will be taken up at the appropriate time after the ongoing elections,” he told The Hindu here on Tuesday. He said a section of the media had misinterpreted his statement on Telangana by quoting him of having said that no bill would be introduced on the issue. “We are very clear and there is no change in our stand on separate Telangana. National party like Congress has so many issues pertaining to every State and Telangana is not the only issue. We (Congress) are not a one-issue party,” he said. When it was pointed out that some Congress leaders from Telangana region like G. Venkatasamy were agitated over the attitude of the high command towards the demand for separate Statehood, he quipped: “it is natural for them to get agitated; but this kind of agitation is not new to the Congress party. We will face it.”
