MADURAI: The South Zone Insurance Employees’ Federation has sought the support of political leaders and Members of Parliament to stall the Central Government’s move to increase foreign direct investment in insurance sector. In a press release, K. Swaminathan, general secretary of the union, said that its members met 24 Lok Sabha and 15 Rajya Sabha members from Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the last ten days to seek their support. The union had also met Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K V Thangabalu; Pattali Makkal Katchi founder leader S. Ramadoss; N. Varadarajan, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary; Communist Party of India State secretary D. Pandian and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko to seek their support on this issue. The union requested the leaders to ensure that attempts to formulate legislations to increase the FDI limit did not succeed. It was carrying out an awareness campaign among the public on this issue, Mr. Swaminathan said.
