Held for threat to blow up building

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A civil engineer, who allegedly threatened to blow up a building in Kandanchavadi, Thoraipakkam, was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Police said Prakash (54) of Anna Nagar was terminated from service by a private construction firm last month.

On Tuesday, the company officials received an anonymous call that if the dues of Prakash were not settled within a few hours, the building (partly under construction), would be blown up.

On information, the Thoraipakkam police conducted searches and declared the threat as hoax.

The call was traced to have come from a mobile owned by Prakash.

A special team apprehended Prakash who confessed to have made the call under the influence of liquor.

He was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.
