VIJAYAWADA: The State unit of the Lok Janshakti Party has criticised what it calls ‘inordinate delay’ in issuance of white ration cards to the beneficiaries. In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the party’s State general secretary D. Prem Kumar and Krishna district president D. Raja pointed out that a little before local elections, ration cards were given based on iris scanning. But the distribution exercise had to be stalled abruptly, as election notification was issued, leaving thousands of ‘beneficiaries’ high and dry. The Government, however, promised to resume the distribution process once the elections were over. The Lok Janshakti leaders alleged that the anganwadi teachers, who were entrusted the task of verifying facts given by the applicants, were incompetent for the job. They did not even cover 35 per cent of the total number of beneficiaries, they said.
