Interim relief of Rs. 5,000 sought

STIR: Members of the BSNL Workers’ Alliance staging a demonstration in Madurai on Tuesday.

MADURAI: Members of the BSNL Workers’ Alliance staged a demonstration demanding a charter of demands, including withdrawal of the move to disinvestment of BSNL, on Tuesday.

The agitators demanded an interim relief of Rs. 5,000 with effect from January, 2007 and to remove the anomalies in the recommendations of Pay Commission. Employees should be given time-bound promotions and reservation in promotion for SC/ST employees.

The protest was led by office-bearers of National Federation of Telecom Employees, S. Rajendran, Federation of National Telecom Organisations, E. Chandra Bose, and BSNL Workers’ Rashtriya Union, L. Kannan.
