Operational might on display

Staff Reporter

On Board INS Jalashwa: The operational might of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) was on display at the ‘Day at Sea’ organised by the ENC as part of the Navy Week celebrations, off Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.

The Commanding Officers of the Naval ships and submarines, anchored at the jetties, saluted the mighty INS Jalashwa, a Landing Platform Dock, as it pulled out of the Fleet Jetty and passed through them.

The operational display began as INS Jalashwa entered the open sea and there was nothing in sight except water and other Naval warships all around.

The other ships which participated in the exercise were: INS Rajput and INS Ranvir (both Kashin Class Destroyers), INS Khanjar, INS Kirch, INS Sukanya, INS Vibhuti and INS Nirbhik and Missile Corvettes.

Search and Rescue Operations (SAR) demonstration by a Chetak helicopter, Anti-Submarine operations by helicopters, high speed manoeuvres by the Missile Corvettes and anti-aircraft firing caught the attention of the children and senior citizens who were on board INS Jalashwa. Senior citizens were overjoyed at the gesture of the ENC for giving them a golden opportunity.

“It’s a dream come true for me. My friend’s son is in the Navy.

He told me of the trip and I came all the way from Ranchi along with my husband.

I was told that this is one of the biggest ships of the Indian Navy,” said Mrs. Mridula Jha.
