Job fair for government college students

Reliance Communications to recruit candidates for sales jobs

Fair has been tentatively scheduled for December 7

MADURAI: The Directorate of Collegiate Education will organise a job fair here in December for students who have passed out of government arts colleges in southern districts.

“This is the first recruitment drive being organised by us for government colleges in the Madurai region. The placement cell at the headquarters of the Directorate in Chennai is taking steps to prepare students for job fairs,” Nalini Ravindran, Director of College Education, told The Hindu on Tuesday.

She said Reliance Communications would recruit candidates (only males) at the Madurai job fair, offering Rs.7,500-Rs.15,000 in salary.

The fair has been tentatively scheduled for December 7, and the date will be finalised in a few days.

Ms. Nalini Ravindran said the job fairs held so far for students of government arts and science colleges at different places had received good response, prompting the Directorate to organise one for the Madurai region too.

Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education C. Pandi said the job fair would be held at Sri Meenakshi Government College for Women. Male candidates who passed out of government arts colleges at Melur, Sivaganga, Karaikudi, Paramakudi and Poolankurichi could attend the fair.

“Interested candidates who passed out in the past two years can walk in. Since Reliance Communications has specified that it will recruit candidates only marketing and sales jobs, the fair is confined to male candidates,” he said.

Ms. Nalini Ravindran said plans were afoot to have placement cells in all regional offices, so that job fairs could be made a routine affair. “We are going to create a database of students so that it will be easy to rope in companies. Sessions will also be held to train students in handling questions in interviews.”

The next major task of the Directorate, she said, would be to gear up the students for high-profile jobs in different sectors by teaching them English language skills.
