NELLORE: A four-member team of Food and Veterinary Organisation of European Union (EU) visited the fish and prawn culture tanks and marine products export companies and observed the steps being taken by farmers and export companies to prevent antibiotics in marine products. The team which was in India for the past few days visited East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts. They inspected the aqua culture tanks located in coastal villages in Muthukuru, Thotapalli Guduru, Alluru, Kota, Vakadu and other mandals in the district on Tuesday. Officials of Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and Ministry of Commerce and Industry accompanied the team. The EU members interacted with the farmers and the representatives of processing units, export companies, hatcheries and aqua labs in the villages. Europe is the major marine products consumer from India, followed by Japan.
