All-round show by Vishnu

Kottayam: An all-round performance by V. Vishnu (54 batting and six for 18) put Pathanamthitta in the driving seat against Kottayam on the opening day of the South Zone under-14 inter-district cricket tournament at the St. Ephreme’s School ground, here on Tuesday.

Vishnu’s incisive spell bundled out Kottayam for 84 and his unbeaten half-century enabled Pathanamthitta to finish the day at 244 for seven.

At the University ground, Alappuzha was on the verge of taking the first innings lead against Kollam. After bundling out Kollam for 100, Alappuzha at stumps was 92 for three.

The scores: Kottayam 84 in 36.3 overs (V. Vishnu six for 18) vs. Pathanamthitta 244 for seven in 64 overs (Aman S. Kumar 93, V. Vishnu 54 batting, Prashob R. Pillai 44); Kollam 100 in 51 overs (Balu Babu four for 33) vs. Alappuzha 92 for three in 32 overs (Anuj 38 batting).
