CSI Girls HSS emerges champion

Coimbatore: CSI Girls Higher Secondary School maintained a clean league slate and emerged champion in the district-level under-16 inter-school hockey tournament, organised by the Coimbatore wing of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, at the Bharathiar University grounds here on Tuesday.

Presentation Convent and Chinmaya International Residential School finished second and third respectively.

Earlier, Satchidananda Jothi Niketan (Kallar), as expected, thrashed Government Higher Secondary School (Madukkarai) 4-0 for the boys’ title. Government HSS (Ondipudur) defeated Corporation HSS (Siddhapudur) by a similar margin and finished third.

The results: Boys: Final: Satchidananda Jothi Niketan (Kallar) 4 (Logeshwar 2, Subash, Mothil Prabhu) bt GHSS (Madukkarai).

Third place: Government HSS (Ondipudur) 4 (Vimal 2, Jagadeeswaran, Rakesh) bt Corporation HSS (Siddhapudur) 0.

Girls: League: Chinmaya IRS 1 (Shriy Rao) drew with GHSS (Madukkarai) 1 (Jayanthi); CSI GHSS 3 (Mercy Prasanna, Sangeethavani, Mercy Kiruba) bt Presentation Convent GHSS 0; Presentation Convent GHSS 3 (Afrin, Poovizhi, Niveditha) bt GHSS (Madukkarai) 0; CSI GHSS 2 (Renuga, Esther Brindha) bt Chinmaya IRS 0; CSI GHSS 4 (Renuga, Sangeethavani 2, Monika) bt GHSS (Madukkarai) 0; Presentation Convent GHSS 1 (Afrin) bt Chinmaya IRS 0.

Final standings: 1. CSI GHSS 9 pts, 2. Presentation Convent 6, 3. Chinmaya IRS 1, 4. GHSS (Madukkarai) 1.

Sidharth for NBTA

S. Sidharth of Coimbatore has been selected under the Advantage Tamil Nadu Programme to train at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy (NBTA) in the United States, for four weeks beginning from November 26.

Selection trials

Trials to select the district junior ball badminton team for the State championship in Madurai will be held at the Nehru Stadium ball badminton courts on November 29 at 7.30 p.m. For details, contact P.S. Balakumar, Secretary, Coimbatore District Ball Badminton Association, at 98945 00700.

Riders SC posts win

Riders Sports Club and Sand Rock Sports Club managed to get past their opponents in the NDFA Riverside Public School third division football league at the HADP Stadium on Tuesday at Udhagamandalam.

The results: League: Riders SC 2 bt Illayabharatham SC 1; Sand Rock SC 1 bt Sporting Union FC 0.

Varun’s effort in vain

Varun Mittal’s all-round effort (37 & five for 15) went in vain as Little JPMCC (Jedarpalayam) scored a one-wicket win over NKCMCC (Kumarapalayam) in the Canara Bank-DCAN second division league at the ICL Colony grounds at Namakkal recently.

The scores: NKCMCC (Kumarapalayam) 99 in 27.3 overs lost to Little JPMCC 100 for nine in 26.2 overs (Varun Mittal five for 15). — Sports Reporter
