NEW DELHI: Nokia on Tuesday unveiled music and entertainment device ‘5800 XpressMusic’ with touch-screen. The Finnish company also said the beta version of ‘Nokia Music Store’ will be launched next month. Priced at Rs. 21,839 and to be available from January next, the device with 8 GB memory has a virtual alphanumeric keypad and computer-style keyboard. It has a pen stylus and a plectrum for music enthusiasts, besides ‘media bar’ that offers direct link to the Web and to online sharing. Key priority area
Unveiling the phone, NokiaExecutive Vice-President Anssi Vanjoki said: “Mobile music will continue to be a key priority area for Nokia in 2009 and our strategy is aimed at developing the market for mobile music by following a partnership driven model that enriches consumer experience with innovative devices, accessories and local content.” According to Nokia India Managing Director D. Shivakumar, “Nokia Music Store, a part of the OVI (OVI is the name for Nokia’s ‘umbrella concept’ Internet services), will go live next month. It will deliver over ten-lakh tracks from global hits to local artists, providing Indian consumers the freedom to enjoy music at their fingertips.” Mr. Shivakumar said that to provide locally relevant content, Nokia had tied up Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, EMI and Warner and major Indian record labels, including Tseries, Big Music and Yashraj. “We are also planning to join hands with India’s leading music body, Indian Music Industry (IMI), a consortium of over 150 music companies, to give consumers an opportunity to discover and enjoy their favourite music across genres and languages,” he added.
