Woman sets daughter, herself ablaze

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A 23-year-old woman set her one-year-old daughter ablaze and later herself on fire in Rachenahalli near Sampegehalli police station limits on Monday.

The police said Saraswati set her daughter ablaze and later committed suicide when her husband Eshwar Reddy was not in the house.

The neighbours took them to Victoria Hospital, where both succumbed to the burns.

Saraswati, a native of Pattnavarahalli near Bagepalli, married Reddy, also from the same village, two years ago. She had allegedly complained to her neighbours about exploitation and harassment for dowry she faced at the hands of Reddy.

Reddy had quit his job as a driver a few days ago.
