KOTTAYAM: Don Bosco HSS (Irinjalakuda) and Kottayam’s Mount Carmel retained the boys and girls titles in the 18th Girideepam all-India inter-school basketball tournament at the Girideepam Bethany court here on Monday. Don Bosco defeated host Girideepam 46-23, while the Mount Carmel girls edged Lady Sivasamy Iyer HSS (Chennai) 57-55. SMSN HSS (Vaikom) defeated the host Girideepam Bethany 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-27, 15-12 to win the volleyball tournament. The results (finals): Boys: Don Bosco HSS (Irinjalakuda) 46 (Shebin Shamsudeen 12, Amit Sebastian 11) bt Girideepam Bethany (Kottayam) 23 (Geo Siby 10, Jithu Varghese 10). Girls: Mount Carmel HSS (Kottayam) 57 (Jain Mercilla 15, Sona M. Saji 15, Anila Augustine 14) bt Lady Sivasamy Iyer HSS (Chennai) 55 (S. Srividhya 18, R.S. Karpagam 14, N. Soumya 10). Mini boys (round robin, decider): Girideepam (Kottayam) 32 bt Nirmal Bethany (Pune) 18. Best player awards: Amit Sebastian (boys, Don Bosco, Irinjalakuda), Anila Augustine (girls, Mount Carmel, Kottayam), Raju Chacko (mini boys, Girideepam).
