CHENNAI: Promoted team Don Bosco Annai Youth started its campaign as a senior division team with a bang, scoring a 6-0 win over State Bank of India in the St. Joseph’s-CFA league here on Monday. The margin could have been lot more embarrassing if only the newcomer had not frittered away several other scoring chances. With two talented Nigerians, one (Jeribe Kelechi) in the strike line and another (Ifeany) in deep defence, Annai Youth had a combination that left its rival clueless. If its attack lacked teeth, then SBI’s defence had yawning gaps that was waiting to be exploited. Kelechi had his hand in two goals and he himself scored one to put his side 3-0 up by half-time. Reagan got the first goal (7th), Sasikumar made it 2-0 (27nd) and Kelechi capped a solo (39th). No respiteThe change of ends did not provide respite for SBI, if anything it only heightened its misery. Starting with Immanuel’s volleyed goal, a beauty after goalkeeper Karim failed to collect a flag kick in the 46th minute, goals came in at regular intervals. Riayz Ahmed found the roof of the net (55th) and Reagan helped himself to his second (59th). Many more could have followed but then it was a day when Annai Youth could miss sitters and not court despair. Only twice did SBI come near the rival-end. FCI posts winEarlier in the first division, FCI edged Universal RC 1-0. Fredy Jose scored the winner.
