SC Railway has it easy

HYDERABAD: South Central Railway defeated Accountant General (AP) 3-0 in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds here on Monday.

After a barren first-half, SCR took the lead in the 56th minute when Vijay latched on to a neat cross from Nidhi. Within four minutes, Azeem scored off a solo effort. In the dying minutes, midfielder Alfred completed the tally with a 40-yard kick.

Munsiff XI wins

Munsiff XI scored a solitary goal win over Jaiprakash XI in the Club championship of the Archbishop Arulappa memorial football tournament at Trimulgherry Village Grounds here. The match-winner came in the 21st minute through a long-ranger from Siraj.

In the schools event, St. Ignatius High School defeated Zilla Parishad High School (Trimulgherry) 2-0 with Rahim and Ajay being the scorers.

Inter-institutional carrom

The Inter-Institution National carrom championship will be held in Delhi from November 25 to 28, according to B. K. Haranath, president of Hyderabad Carrom Association.

It is stated that the Institutional men’s and women’s teams for the coming Inter-Zonal carrom championship will be selected on the conclusion of the above event.

Six-time National champion P. Nirmala and former World champion S. Apporwa from Hyderabad will be the members of LIC team.

Srinivasa Rao of Hyderabad Telephones, who is also an all-India umpire, will be officiating in the championship.

Ranga Reddy wins

Ranga Reddy won the AP State School Games Federation inter-district (under-19) football championship with a 1-0 win over Hyderabad in the final at AOC Grounds here. The match-winner came through Naresh.

Rohit enters final

M. Rohit defeated D.V.A. Abhijit 8-3 in the boys’ under-10 semifinal of the Sun-Jay Tennis Academy tennis tournament at ASCI here.

The results: all semifinals: Boys: Under-14: P. Nitin bt Affan Abdul Ahad 8-3; C. Varun bt A. Akhil Varma 8-3; Under-12: A. Akhil Varma bt N. Riyank Varma 8-5; P. Nitin bt Affan Abdul Ahad 8-6; Under-10: M. Rohit bt D. V. A. Abhijit 8-3; C. Arjun bt P. V. Gnana Bhaskar 8-4.

Girls: Under-10: S. Nidhi bt S. P. Sowmya 8-2; Manasi Reddy bt C. Sravan Shivani 8-7 (7-2); Under-12: S. Nidhi bt S. P. Sowmya 8-4; M. Nikhita bt S. Manasi Reddy 8-6.

Good spell by Devi

A good spell by Devi (eight for 17) helped Hyder XI record a convincing, 139-run win over Andhra Bank Colony in the Schools league cricket championship here.

The scores:

HCA Inter-schools (under-14) tournament: Semifinal: St. Andrews HS 169 (K.S.K. Chaitanya 35, Ravi Teja 41) bt Gautam Model School 117 (B. Anirudh four for 12).

Schools league: AVCC 98 (Rohit three for 31, Nandu three for 20) lost to Greenlands 102 for no loss (Akshat 39 not out, Arun Deva 33 not out).

Hyder XI 182 for nine (Vishal 61, Ruthvik Reddy 38, Charan four for 41) bt AB Colony 43 (Devi eight for 17).

B-Division (one-day) knock-out: Sai Saints 167 (Ishwar Rao 53, Junaid Ahmed four for 14) bt PN Youngsters 149 (Safi 53, Mayank four for 30, Akbar four for 31).

Noble 228 for eight (Q. Jaweed 89, Arshad 56, Anwer 45, Chetan five for 68) bt Tirumala 160 for nine (Kishore 43, M. Kaleem five for 31).

Ibrahim dead

Mohd Ibrahim, former Hyderabad hockey player, passed away on Sunday in a road accident. He was 58. Ibrahim was a key official of all hockey activities in the BHEL community and a close associate of P. Kantaiah, secretary of Hyderabad Hockey Association.
