Rain continues, causes hardship to residents

MADURAI: Drizzle during most part of the day along with intermittent heavy showers on Monday put the city residents into a lot of inconvenience.

Though the district administration on Sunday night itself declared a holiday on Monday for all the schools in the district many schools functioned, putting parents into an early morning dilemma.

Water level

Water level in the Periyar dam on Monday stood at 121 feet (full level 136 feet) with an inflow of 1,697 cusecs and a discharge of 1,025 cusecs.

The level in the Vaigai dam was 62.07 feet (71 feet) with an inflow of 1,239 cusecs and a discharge of 41 cusecs.

The combined Periyar credit stood at 3,729 mcft.

Tekkadi recorded the highest rainfall of 42 mm followed by Kallandiri 34.5, Mettupatti 33, Madurai 31, Sittampatti 27, Peranai and Pulipatti 25, Shanmuganadi Melur and Thaniyamangalam 23 mm each, Manjalar dam and Marudhanadi 22 mm each, Andipatti 20, Periyar dam and Veerapandi 19 mm each, Gudalur and Sattaiyar dam 17 mm each, Idayapatti 16.4, Kuppanampatti 15.3, Vaigai dam 11 and Uthamapalayam 7.
