Passenger shelter needed

There is no passenger shelter at the Market street bus stop in Woraiyur. This has forced the people to wait in the scorching sun for the buses. I request the Corporation authorities to take steps for the construction of shelter there.

R. Suresh,

Woraiyur.

Improve atmosphere

The Chitra and Uthira streets were lined with cement concrete on both sides. Previously during rainy season rainwater used to percolate increasing the groundwater and there would not be any stagnation. But now in many places the rain water stagnates for days together as there is no slope or rainwater drainage or arrangements for the water to seep into the ground. This has marred the beauty of the streets. In the first place we do not understand how it was considered that cement concreting on the sides of inner street, would improve the beauty. There are hundred ways to improve the environs of the temple town. As a first step the entire stretch of road from Ammamandapam to the temple should be lined with flowering trees and a pedestrian path provided. Even in the concrete road between Rajagopuram to the temple where the foreigners walk is dirty and rainwater stagnates.

S.Sivaraman,

Srirangam.

Introduce night passenger train

When there was MG in Tiruchi-Rameswaram section, a night passenger train was running from Tiruchi to Rameswaram, starting here at about 9.30 p.m. and reaching Rameswaram at about 4.30 a.m. This was very useful to the public of the central districts and also to the devotees. I request the railways to reintroduce the same with reservation facilities. This would help the old age people also, to have a holy dip in the sea.

Ensure safety norms

It is astonishing to note from CAG’S report that many schools are being run in Tamil Nadu without caring for safety norms and purified drinking water. Public in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere cannot and should not forger the fire accident caused in a school at Kumbakonan in 2004, in which about 90 children perished. Even after the lapse of four years, the government did not give proper importance in providing safety equipment and purified drinking water in all schools. People wonder as to why, the Tamil Nadu Government did not take proper follow-up action after the Kumbakonam school fire accident.

P.R. Krishnan,

Ayyappa Nagar.

Control mosquito menace

Mosquito menace has reached an alarming proportion in Karumandapam area that it does not spare the people even during day time. Lack of underground drainage, open sewage, rain water collection in vacant plots, garbage thrown around houses by dwellers are all contributing to this perennial menace. I wish corporation authorities should take drastic measures to control this menace.

D. Saminathan,

Karumandapam.

Regulate tourist buses

Due to road expansion work on the bypass road, the vehicular traffic in the Cauvery bridge is stopped. All vehicles, including heavy ones, are diverted through the Main Trunk Road in Thriruvanaikoil. As the road overbridge is very narrow, all these vehicles are routed through Amma Mandapam, Srirangam and then reach the main road at Thriruvnaikoil.

Moreover, the Ayyappa devotees coming by tourist buses and vans, are parking the vehicles haphazardly on both sides of the Ammamandapam Road for hours together. The traffic jams thus created caused untold agonies and hardships. The tourist buses should be regulated to park on one side of the Ammamandapam road only.

Besides the mofussil buses and lorries are to be routed only through the Thiruvanaikoil road over bridge, till the works are completed in bye pass road. The city buses operating to Srirangam should be directed in the following method. The Govt buses may be asked to enter Srirangam via Thiruvanaikoil and proceed to the city via Ammamandapam Road. The private operators should be asked to enter Srirangam via Ammamandapam Road and then leave for Tiruchi via Thiruvanaikoil.

N. Rangarajan,

Srirangam.

Violation of norms

A large number of share autos are operated from Central Bus stand to Ramachandra Nagar. Some of the share autos carry about 15 to 20 passengers in a trip, in violation of the established norms. This may lead to fatal accidents. I request the transport and the police authorities to regulate the share-autos.

T. Somu,

Edamalaipattipudur.

Bad road condition

I had written earlier in these columns about the bad condition of the roads in Ranga Nagar area especially the lanes of Rajaji Street, Subramaniapuram and South Devi streets. The streets and bylanes are horribly worse and have not been attended to despite repeated protests, personal meetings and forwarding petitions to the authorities. All the streets and bylanes have a lot of potholes with highly uneven surfaces and the passers find it very difficult even to walk for crossing over to the nearby streets. The recent incessant rains have covered the deep potholes and both the pedestrian and the vehicular traffic are experiencing nightmarish experiences.

Recently the Corporation had passed a resolution that a sum of Rs.24 crore will be spent on repairing the streets and roads in Tiruchi and Srirangam. Immediate action on war footing is the need of the hour.

P.S. Subrahmanian,

Srirangam.

Halting of buses

All the out-going buses to Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kadalur, Thuraiyur and Jayamkondam can be terminated at Tiruchi Central bus-stand as the central bus-stand has been expanded. But still all these buses are causing disturbances by halting their services at Chathram bus-stand. If and when the officials can expand the present Central Bus-Stand all the buses going to the nearby villages can have an halt here.

K. Venkatesan,

Rockfort Agraharam.

Ensure law and order

The lawlessness in Chennai Law College shocked every law-abiding citizens. The responsibility of maintaining law order rests not only with police personnel and college authorities, but also with the law learning students, who are tomorrow’s lawyers and judges. Law colleges are more politically polluted than other educational institutions.

R. Muthusamy,

Sangiliyandapuram.

Stoppage needed

The mofussil buses proceeding to Thanjavur do not stop at Kattur in both the directions unless someone alights here on request. In spite of repeated requests to the authorities concerned, no one cares. Every day, a lot of people are proceeding to Thanjavur direction as well as Tiruchi direction from Kattur. As the mofussil buses have no stop at Kattur, people have to go to Tiruverumbur by city bus and then catch these buses. All the mofussil buses stop at Palpannai, which is not an important area when compared to Kattur. I request the Transport Minister to look into this.

Janakimaindhan S. Raj,

O.F.T. Estate.

Majestic look

Tiruchi airport after renovation has a majestic outlook. Now the authorities have plans to link Tiruchi with various European countries. In this context I would like to suggest that the authorities can start new air services from Tiruchi to Bengaloru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkatta, as the link services to these cities will help the various central government authorities working in Tiruchi. These services will reduce their travel time as these people have to go to Chennai and wait for a longer time to get the connecting flight.

O.F.T.Estage.
