KARAIKAL: Collector N. Vasanthakumar said here on Sunday that the Tirunallar Temple Town Development Scheme would be implemented shortly.

Speaking at a Jama Bandhi session, he said that the government would sign the MoU for the Rs. 150-crore project with HUDCO on Monday and groundwork would begin before December end.

In spite of heavy rains, people turned up in large numbers at the Sethur Government High School to get their grievances redressed, an official said.

The Adi Dravidar Welfare Board gave Rs. 40,000 to each of 36 people as first instalment of housing subsidy. Six women SHGs were also given Rs. 1 lakh as revolving fund. Beneficiaries received funds and subsidies under various schemes.

Other departments including Revenue, Social Welfare, Labour, Civil Supplies, Road Transport and Health participated in the session.

The administration’s Jama Bandhi sessions were becoming popular as a means of taking government to the people, PMK MP M. Ramadass said adding he would bring this to the notice of the Parliament.

Delivering the special address, Mr. Ramadass said that Karaikal was developing faster due to the special attention of the Puducherry government and the district administration. He said that Karaikal need no longer worry about the “neglected” tag of earlier years.

The session was inaugurated by P.R.Siva, MLA.
