Industrial estate for Tiruvarur district

Special Correspondent

TIRUVARUR: Tiruvarur district will soon get its first industrial estate in a sprawling 70-acre area and the site has been identified at Vaipur village, about 12-km from here on the Tiruvarur-Nagore road.

The district administration had sent the proposal a few months ago to the Government for its approval.

As many as 2,500 small-scale units, mostly general engineering, rice mill and coir machinery manufacturing units, are functioning at various places in the district.

Several entrepreneurs are ready to start small-scale industries once the Government establishes the industrial estate.

A senior district official said that the estate would have all infrastructure including adequate power supply for running the small-scale units.

It will also have a workshop for repairing motor vehicles and be a boon to the entrepreneurs.

S. Ravichandran, president of Tiruvarur District Small Scale Industries Association, told The Hindu on Sunday that there was a good scope for starting small-scale units in the district. Nearly 2,500 small-scale units, registered with the District Industries Centre, are functioning.

He pointed out that entrepreneurs were now ready to start chemical-based industries, plastic goods and rice mill machinery manufacturing units, general engineering and perfumery making units.

Mr Ravichandran said that the Government should ensure power supply for small scale units. All banks and other financial institutions will come forward to provide financial assistance to entrepreneurs.

M.Chandrasekaran, Collector, had recently interacted with entrepreneurs for setting up viable and income-generating small scale units.
