TIRUPATI: The agricultural data recorded over the years often show gaps and are therefore not continuous in nature. Rainfall data also exhibits these variations from the normal trend, K.C. Reddy, Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) has observed. Speaking at the inaugural of the 62nd annual conference of Indian Society of Agricultural Statistics (ISAS), organised by Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University here on Monday, he feared such abnormalities could affect the validity of forecasts and other policy measures, such as measurement of agricultural growth, obtained by applying the conventional models. He suggested to the agricultural statisticians to modify the methodologies in the context of these aberrations. He also urged the fraternity to develop suitable methods and models for generation and retrieval of reliable database essential for future generation in developing the strategies. Counselling to farmersProf. Reddy recalled in this connection the strides made by Andhra Pradesh in applying IT for agricultural growth through the Rajiv Internet Villages programme.
