Ration dealers seek payment of dues

Thiruvananthapuram: Ration shops remained closed in Thiruvananthapuram district as licensees and employees in the public distribution system held a dharna in front of the Secretariat on Monday demanding a hike in handling charges and steps by the Central and State governments to protect the rationing system.

They demanded immediate payment of the amount for the distribution of free ration, without which it was not possible to manage owing to the hikes in diesel price, lorry rental, rent and power tariff and increase in the prices of food grains.

They warned of an agitation otherwise.
