Need for creating demand for glass
Corporate Reporter
CHENNAI: The Indian glass industry is witnessing an interesting trend with a moderate drop in volume but a growth in value. The challenge lies in the creation of demand, according to B. Santhanam, President-Flat Glass, South Asia and Managing Director, Saint-Gobain Glass India.
Addressing mediapersons here on Monday on the occasion of curtain-raiser press conference of the sixth international glass technology trade fair “Glasstech 2008” to be held in New Delhi from December 5 to 7, Mr. Santhanam said the year 2009 for the industry would be similar and the challenge of demand creation assumed even greater significance. According to Syed Zakir Ahmed, Chairman, Zak Trade Fairs & Exhibitions, the organiser of the show, whenever there was a slowdown in the economy, tradeshows became a platform of discovery. The trade fairwould see participation of more than 200 exhibitors from 25 countries.
