Yeddyurappa promises aid for construction of Haj Ghar

The building is likely to cost Rs. 10 crore; technical estimate is yet to be prepared

Haj Committee has bought five acres of land in Hennur for construction of the building


BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday promised to provide financial assistance to construct a ‘Haj Ghar’ in the State as a permanent structure for housing Haj camps as well as offering other facilities to Haj pilgrims.

Mr. Yeddyurappa made this assurance during his visit to the Haj camp at the Khuddus Sab Idgah Maidan here.

Addressing the Haj pilgrims, Mr. Yeddyurappa said he was ready to provide any assistance required by the community.

He appealed to the pilgrims to pray for peace in the State and wished them a happy and safe journey.

Minority Welfare Minister Mumtaz Ali Khan, who was present on the occasion, said the proposed Haj Ghar was expected to cost around Rs. 10 crore. The technical estimate was yet to be prepared. The Haj Committee was expecting Rs. 3 crore from the State Government.

Land in Hennur

The committee had bought five acres of land in Hennur for the construction of the Haj Ghar. The Government had assured him of a reduction in the registration fee for the land, he said.

The proposed Haj Ghar would be one of the most modern in the country. It would also have a shopping complex to generate revenue for its activities.

At present, Haj pilgrims and those accompanying them till the airport, are accommodated in temporary structures at the Idgah maidan for the completion of various formalities.

On Monday, 900 people embarked on the Haj pilgrimage. In all, 7,000 people will undertake the pilgrimage, till December 1. The pilgrimage started from November 17, and 900 people leave every day.

Mr. Khan said the State provided the best facilities in the country to Haj pilgrims. Separate check-in counters had been opened at Bengaluru International Airport for the pilgrims, he said.
