Vidarbha well placed

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vidarbha is well placed against Andhra, while Karnataka put up a good total against Punjab at close on the second day of the four-day elite Group ‘B’ matches of the all-India under-19 cricket tournament for the Cooch-Behar Trophy, here on Sunday.

Vidarbha, after posting 304, thanks to Sumeet Ruikar 88 (12x4, 1x6) and his partnerships of 91 and 52 with A. Chorasiya and Harsha Arora for the eighth and ninth wickets respectively, had Andhra in trouble at 155 for five in its reply.

The host could avoid more trouble thanks to Ch. Praneeth Kumar 78 batting (12x4), who put on 53 runs for the unbroken sixth-wicket with D. Siva Kumar (31) and 51 for the second-wicket with D.B. Prasanth Kumar (27). Viraj Kadbe took two for 48 for Vidarbha.

Meanwhile, overnight centurion Mayank Agarwal went on to make 178 (23x4) and his seventh-wicket partnership with Abrar Kazi 67 (6x4, 1x6) stretched to 156.

Punjab medium-pacer Jaskaran Singh claimed five wickets and left-arm spinner Lakshay Seth got three.

Punjab was 71 for two in its reply with Anil Sichang (27, 3x4) and Himanshu Chawla (25) at the crease.

Meanwhile in Chennai, heavy showers interfered again with the Group ‘A’ matches, washing out the second days’ play in Chennai.

The four-day contests between Tamil Nadu and Baroda and Saurashtra and Maharashtra — scheduled to begin on Saturday — are yet to get underway.

The scores:

Vidarbha 304 in 114 overs (Sumeet Ruikar 88, Sankalp Kamble 36, Aditya Sarwate 34, A. Chorasiya 33, Vijay Kadbe 32, M. Ajay Kumar four for 72) vs. Andhra 155 for five in 74 overs (Ch. Praneeth Kumar 74 batting, D. Siva Kumar 31 batting); Karnataka 387 in 136.1 overs (Mayank Agarwal 178, Abrar Kazi 67, Pawan Deshpande 51, K.L. Rahul 36, Jaskaran Singh five for 96, Lakshay Seth three for 100) vs. Punjab 71 for two in 32 overs.
